This one was a real space problem. Both doors had standard overhead rail systems with ceiling-mounted openers eating up every inch of usable headroom. Throw in an ATV, a truck, a ceiling fan, and a garage packed with tools and equipment - and you can see exactly why this setup wasn't working anymore.
We converted both doors to a high lift system and installed a pair of LiftMaster 98022 jackshaft side-mount openers on the center column. Instead of a bulky motor hanging from the ceiling on a rail, these openers mount directly to the wall beside each door. That's it. No rail. No motor unit dangling overhead. Just clean, open ceiling space.
The difference in headroom is hard to overstate. High lift conversions raise the horizontal track up toward the ceiling before the door travels back, which is what makes the whole thing possible. Combined with wall-mounted openers, you end up with a garage that feels completely different - quieter operation, more usable space, and a setup that can actually accommodate taller vehicles, overhead storage, or whatever you want to do with that ceiling.
The LiftMaster 98022 is one of the best jackshaft openers on the market. It runs on a DC motor, operates almost silently, and integrates with LiftMaster's myQ smart home system. For a busy two-car garage like this one, it was the right call on both doors.
If your garage ceiling is cluttered with rails and motors and you feel like you're constantly working around your own equipment, a high lift conversion might be exactly what you need. We handle everything from the hardware swap to the full opener install - and we serve homeowners all across the Triangle, from Raleigh and Wake Forest to Durham, Cary, and everywhere in between.
