A Raleigh homeowner called us out for a broken torsion spring. Simple enough on the surface - but once we got in there and did a full inspection, it was clear the spring wasn't the only thing that needed attention. The rollers were worn down, the center mount was plastic, and the bearing plates had seen better days. When one part of a garage door system is failing, the rest usually isn't far behind.
We replaced the broken torsion spring and swapped out all the old plastic rollers for premium nylon rollers. The difference in those two rollers side by side tells the whole story - one smooth and sealed, one cracked and grinding. Nylon rollers run quieter and they're a lot easier on your tracks and opener over time. It's one of those upgrades that most homeowners never think about until the door starts rattling every single time it moves.
The plastic center mount got pulled out and replaced with a true center bearing. Same story with the bearing plates on the ends - out with the worn originals, in with solid replacements that can actually do their job. These are the parts that handle the tension and movement of the spring shaft every single cycle. They wear down slowly, so most people don't notice until something goes wrong.
Once everything was in, we balanced the door and tuned the whole system. A properly balanced door doesn't just feel better - it puts less strain on your opener, extends the life of every moving part, and makes the whole system safer to operate. That last step matters as much as any individual part we replaced.
This is the kind of job where doing it right means looking at the full picture, not just the broken spring. We do this every day across Raleigh and the Triangle area, and we're not in the habit of doing half a job.
